Description

Broachrigg Farmhouse is an early 19th century, two-storey, three-bay farmhouse with a rectangular plan, featuring later additions and alterations. The building is constructed from tooled, squared, and snecked sandstone rubble with droved dressings. Most windows have chamfered reveals, projecting cills, and the corners are accented with long and short diagonally droved quoins.

The north elevation, which serves as the entrance, is near-symmetrical. It has a polished doorway in the center of the ground floor, featuring an architrave and a vertically glazed timber door with a two-pane fanlight above. To the right, there is a window, while the left side has an altered tripartite window. The first floor has regular fenestration. A later 19th century lean-to addition is located on the outer left, which includes a single window.

The west elevation is blank.

The south elevation is asymmetrical and has three bays. It features a 20th century, flat-roofed, glazed timber porch in the center of the ground floor. To the right, there is a later 19th century addition with a timber door flanked by a window, and a window to the left bay. The first floor has regular fenestration in the center and left bays, with an enlarged window in the right bay.

The east elevation is mostly obscured by a lean-to addition, but it has a window in the center of the ground floor and a rooflight on the slate roof of the lean-to.

The farmhouse predominantly features 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with purple-grey slate and has a piended design with a lead ridge. There are harled, coped ridge stacks with octagonal cans and cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen in 1998.

Additionally, there is a boarded timber gate to the west of the house, along with a random rubble wall that has tooled semicircular coping.
