Description
Crookston Farmhouse is a later 19th century, two-storey, three-bay farmhouse featuring a single-storey service wing that projects at the rear. The building is constructed from grey sandstone, with squared and snecked sandstone and ashlar dressings.
On the west elevation, there is a gabled and advanced bay at the center, which includes a corniced and pilastered doorway at ground level. Above this, a window on the first floor has a hoodmould, and there is a blind trefoil panel at the apex of the gable, which also features crowsteps and beak skewputts. Each of the flanking bays has a window on both floors.
The east elevation has a tall single-storey, piend-roofed wing at the rear, with a door flanked by windows under a catslide roof to the north; the remaining openings have been altered. The outer two-storey bays of the house also have a window on each floor.
Both side elevations are blank, with each having a single ground floor window on the west side. The sash and case windows have a small-pane glazing pattern.
The piend roofs are covered with grey slates, and there are shouldered and corniced wallhead stacks. The property is complemented by sandstone rubble retaining walls with semi-circular coping and simple wrought-iron gates to the north.
