Description
Barbachlaw Farmhouse is an early 19th century, two-storey and basement, three-bay farmhouse. The east elevation features coursed and tooled large blocks of grey sandstone ashlar, with a band course and cavetto cornice, while the sides and rear are constructed from rubble, with ashlar dressings throughout.
On the east elevation, stone steps lead to a basement recess with a central door, which is currently bricked below and has a regrettable modern porch. The original deep-set door position is evident above, complete with a fanlight, and there is a first-floor window. Basement windows are located in the outer bays, with additional windows on each floor above.
The north and south elevations have a ground floor window to the left of the north elevation, and windows at the ground and first floors of the south elevation at the center. Both elevations feature blocked round-headed attic windows at the apex and retain former gutter recesses. The rear has regular fenestration.
The sash and case windows have a 12-pane glazing pattern. The farmhouse has broad end stacks and ashlar coped skews, along with modern tiles.
Surrounding the property are substantial rubble garden walls to the west, which are harl-pointed and almost certainly pre-date the current farmhouse.
