Description

The Coach House at St Germains dates from the late 18th century and is a two-storey, five-bay classical structure with single-storey lean-to wings. The front is made of cream sandstone ashlar, while the sides and rear are roughly squared and coursed with ashlar dressings. It features a base course, band course, and a moulded cornice.

On the northeast elevation, the three central bays are advanced and topped with a steep pediment that has a blinded oculus, breaking the eaves. The ground floor is arcaded, and there are windows in each bay on both floors, with square windows on the first floor.

The southeast elevation consists of three bays, with a boldly pedimented and architraved door at the centre, which is a panelled door. There are depressed carriage arches on either side, which have been blocked and converted into windows, along with three square windows on the first floor.

The single-storey side additions were built at different times and feature coped walls on the north elevation, one made of rubble and the other of ashlar, each with windows. There are modern lean-tos on the south side. The first-floor windows in the main coach house were inserted later, breaking the eaves with swept dormer heads.

The sash and case windows have a small-pane glazing pattern, and the roof is covered with grey slates.
