Description
East Mains, Seton is a farmhouse dating from around 1800. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure with single-storey pavilions added in the mid-19th century. The building features warm-coloured stone that is squared and coursed on the south elevation, with dressed ashlar detailing and distinctive pointing.
On the south elevation, the bays are grouped towards the centre. There is a two-leaf panelled door with a fanlight, flanked by a window in each bay, with additional windows above on the first floor.
The pavilions are attached to the east and west gables. The single-storey pavilions have piend roofs; the one on the right has a door and a window facing south, with a later harled, piend-roofed addition to the north. The left pavilion features a large bipartite window and a modern conservatory addition on the return.
The north (rear) elevation includes a stair window at the centre, situated above a square stone porch addition. The building predominantly has plate glass glazing and sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are two large slate-hung dormers with piend roofs at the rear, along with one smaller dormer. End stacks are present.
The retaining walls and gatepiers consist of rubble walls topped with crenellated ashlar coping on the east and north sides. The east side features large drum piers with ball finials, while the north side has square piers with ashlar caps.
