Braeknowe, Blackness Road, Dundee

Braeknowe is a 2-storey square-plan villa located on Blackness Road in Dundee, designed by J. Ireland and J. MacLaren in 1874. The exterior features coursed rubble with a north front that has three bays. The center bay is recessed and infilled by a single-storey porch supported by square-plan Doric piers on pedestals, with two windows above. The end bays have bipartite windows with consoled cornices on the ground floor. The south front also has three bays, featuring a central shallow advanced triple arched window with keyblocking under a cornice and two windows above. Each side of the villa has a canted window, with bipartite windows above. The west flank has a door that led to a conservatory, now demolished, which has been altered to a window, along with two wallhead stacks. The east flank includes two parallel service wings, with the southern wing later raised and harled, flanking stair windows.

Inside, the villa boasts a pressed metal and wood Art Nouveau fireplace in the foyer, two tall arched stained glass windows that are well detailed, and a light wooden balustraded stair.
