Description
Moraig is a villa located at 30 Farington Street in Dundee, built in 1906 by C G Soutar of Maclaren, Sons and Soutar. This Arts and Crafts style building features an asymmetrical gabled design and is harled on a brick base.
The south elevation showcases a triple gabled structure, with exposed brick on the ground floor. An ashlar string course runs along the first floor, which includes canted oriel windows in the center and right-hand bays that were later extended down to the ground floor, replacing the original half-timbering and flat tripartites. A large gable on the left side has an original five-light canted bay window that extends through both floors, with a Venetian window in the attic. This gable sweeps down to enclose an arched garden entrance, which has been altered to accommodate a sun lounge.
On the east elevation, a steep gable descends to a simple canopied porch on the left, featuring a wrought-iron lantern. The ground floor includes a porthole window and leaded glass windows, both single and bipartite. The first floor has a tripartite window. The villa is topped with red tiled roofs and tall stacks in the roof slopes that have distinctive capped shoulders. The windows are sash and case style, with small-paned upper sections.
Inside, the villa features a panelled hall made of fumed pine, complete with Art Nouveau carved door-surrounds and built-in cupboards in the drawing room. The property is enclosed by low rubble boundary walls and gatepiers.
