Description
54 Rubislaw Den North is a villa built in 1907 by Duncan and J Ross MacMillan. It is two stories tall with an attic and features three bays. The exterior is made of finely finished, tooled coursed grey granite ashlar, with a dividing string course that forms the first-floor cill course. The gableheads have half-timbered details, and the eaves are overhanging with timber bargeboards.
The south elevation is asymmetrical, with a broad gabled bay that advances to the center. It has a five-light canted window with a crenellated parapet on the ground floor, a quadripartite window on the first floor, and a PVCu glazed three-light oriel window on brackets in the attic. There are also windows on the left return. To the left, there is a recessed bay with a flat-roofed porch that has a two-leaf boarded timber door on the ground floor, flanked by a narrow window on the right and a bipartite window on the left. A tripartite window on the first floor breaks the eaves with a crenellated parapet. To the right, there is another recessed bay, with the ground floor not visible since 2000, and a tripartite window on the first floor.
The east elevation features a gabled design with a two-storey gabled bay that advances to the left, displaying quadripartite windows on both the ground and first floors. There is a single-storey gabled bay that advances to the right on the ground floor, which has a broad window in the center. The remainder of this elevation has not been seen since 2000.
The north elevation has not been seen since 2000. The west elevation is also gabled, featuring a bipartite window to the right on the ground floor and a single-storey addition to the left.
The villa predominantly has timber sash and case windows with small pane upper sashes. The roof is slate with lead ridges, and it has coped and corniced ridge and wallhead stacks with circular cans. The rainwater goods are made of cast iron.
The gatepiers and boundary walls consist of square-plan gatepiers to the south with pyramidal caps, a low coped ashlar wall between them, and coped rubble walls for the remainder.
