Description
62 Rubislaw Den North is a villa built between 1895 and 1896 by W & J Smith and William Kelly. It is two stories high with an attic and features a two-bay design. The ground floor is made of tooled coursed granite ashlar, while the first floor on the south elevation is finished in Aberdeen bond ashlar, with finely finished margins. The rest of the building is constructed from granite rubble, with a roughly tooled base course and contrasting light grey long and short dressings on the first floor of the south elevation. The eaves are overhanging.
On the south elevation, which is the principal facade, the design is asymmetrical. It includes a five-light canted window on the right at ground level, topped by a parapet that forms a balcony for the first floor. There is a bipartite window on the first floor and another bipartite window on the ground floor to the left, with a single window above it on the first floor. A piend-roofed dormer is centered on the attic floor.
The east elevation is also asymmetrical, featuring a panelled timber door at the center between the ground and first floors, accessed by a flight of stone steps with iron railings. There is a window to the left on the first floor and three windows to the right, along with a single-storey wing attached to the outer right.
The north elevation was not visible in 2000. The west elevation is symmetrical, with a doorway at the center of the ground floor, which has a panelled timber door with a decoratively glazed upper pane, and a window above it on the first floor.
The villa predominantly has small-pane timber sash and case windows, and the roof is covered with piended green-grey slate and features lead ridges. There are wallhead stacks with circular cans and cast-iron rainwater goods.
The property includes square-plan granite ashlar gatepiers with pyramidal caps on the south side, with low coped walls in between. The remainder of the boundary features granite and brick coped rubble walls.
