Description
58 Rubislaw Den North is a villa designed by William Kelly in 1901. It is a two-storey building with an attic and features two bays. The ground floor is made of tooled coursed granite ashlar, while the first floor has squared and snecked ashlar, finished finely at the margins. The rest of the building is constructed from granite rubble, with a dividing string course and contrasting light grey long and short dressings on the first floor of the south elevation. The eaves overhang and are adorned with timber bargeboards.
The south elevation is asymmetrical, with a gabled bay that advances to the left. It has a tripartite window on the ground floor and a bipartite window with a projecting cill on the first floor, featuring chamfered reveals. There is a three-light canted oriel window set in a harled gablehead, with a billet-moulded eaves course and deeply chamfered outer angles. Small windows on the first floor have ogee lintel details. To the right, there is a recessed bay with a window on the ground floor and a bipartite window on the first floor, along with deeply chamfered outer right angles and small windows on both floors.
The east elevation has an M-gabled design with a two-storey wing adjoining to the right. The north elevation was not visible in 2000. The west elevation is also M-gabled, featuring a segmental-arched doorway at the center of the ground floor with a stained-glass fanlight above. There is a window on the first floor, a single window to the outer right, and an addition to the outer left.
The villa predominantly features timber sash and case windows, with two-pane lower sashes and small-pane upper sashes. The roof is covered with graded slate and has lead ridges. The gablehead stacks are corniced with circular cans, and there are cast-iron rainwater goods.
The gatepiers and boundary walls consist of square-plan granite ashlar gatepiers with pyramidal caps on the south side, with low coped walls between them. The remainder of the boundary walls is made of granite and brick coped rubble.
