Description

60 Rubislaw Den North is a villa built between 1895 and 1896 by W & J Smith and William Kelly. It is two stories high with an attic and features a two-bay design. The ground floor is constructed of tooled coursed granite ashlar, while the first floor has Aberdeen bond ashlar that is finely finished at the margins. The remainder of the building is made of granite rubble, with a roughly tooled base course and contrasting light grey long and short dressings on the first floor of the south elevation. The eaves are overhanging.

The south elevation is asymmetrical, featuring a three-light canted window on the left side at the ground floor, which has a parapet that forms a balcony for the first floor. There is a bipartite window on the first floor above this. On the right side, there is a bipartite window at the ground floor with a straight hoodmould, and a single window above on the first floor. A piend-roofed dormer is centered on the attic floor.

The east elevation is near-symmetrical, with a doorway at the center of the ground floor that has a panelled timber door, and a window above on the first floor.

The north elevation was not visible in 2000.

The west elevation is asymmetrical, featuring a bipartite stair window on the right and a single window at the ground floor on the left. There is a single-storey wing adjoining the outer left side.

The villa predominantly has timber sash and case windows with small-pane upper sashes. The roof is piended, covered with green-grey slate and has lead ridges. There are shouldered wallhead stacks with circular cans and cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen in 2000.

The property also includes square-plan granite ashlar gatepiers with pyramidal caps on the south side, with low coped walls between them, and granite and brick coped rubble walls for the remainder of the boundary.
