Description

72 Rubislaw Den North is a villa built in 1913 by Jenkins and Marr (Harbourne McLennan). It is a two-storey, three-bay structure featuring half-timbered detailing. The southern elevation showcases tooled coursed grey granite that is finely finished at the margins, while the rest of the building is constructed from coursed granite rubble. Notable architectural features include chamfered cills, overhanging eaves with timber bargeboards, and half-timbered gableheads adorned with a dentil frieze.

The principal elevation on the south side is asymmetrical, featuring a gabled timber porch that is set forward at the center bay of the ground floor. This porch is built on a granite plinth and includes a linenfold panelled door accessed by granite steps, with stained glass panels flanking the door and on the right return. To the right, there is a gabled bay with a four-light window at ground level and a four-light canted oriel window above it in the gablehead, which has diamond detailing on the apron bracket. To the left, another gabled bay is advanced, featuring a five-light canted window on the ground floor and a four-light window above it, topped by an advanced gablehead.

The east elevation is also asymmetrical and gabled, with a window to the right on the ground floor and another window to the left on the first floor, along with an addition on the outer right. The north elevation has gabled bays that are advanced to the left and right, while the rest of this side was not visible in 2000. The west elevation is asymmetrical with a gabled roof and irregular fenestration.

The villa features small-pane timber casement windows and a green-grey slate roof with lead ridges. Coped ridge stacks and stacks that break the pitch are present, along with circular cans. The rainwater goods are made of cast iron and feature decorative hoppers.

The interior was not seen in 2000. The property is also marked by square-plan gatepiers on the south side, with a low coped ashlar wall between them and rubble walls surrounding the remainder of the site.
