Description

76 Rubislaw Den North is a villa built in 1901 by William Ruxton. It is a two-storey and attic, two-bay, L-plan structure. The villa features tooled coursed grey granite that is finely finished at the margins of the south elevation, while the rest of the building is made from Aberdeen bond granite. It has a rough-faced base course, cill courses for both the ground and first floors, overhanging eaves, timber bargeboards, and queenpost detailing at the gableheads.

The south elevation is asymmetrical, with a gabled bay slightly advanced to the left. It includes a four-light canted window that is also advanced to the left, with a parapet forming a balcony on the first floor above it. There is a bipartite window on the first floor above the canted window, and a tripartite window on the ground floor of the bay to the right, with a gableted window above on the first floor.

The east elevation is gabled. The north elevation is asymmetrical, featuring a gabled bay advanced to the right, while the remainder is not visible as of 2000. The west elevation, facing Moray Place, is also asymmetrical and consists of four bays. It has three windows on the first floor of the left bay, a quadripartite rectangular dormer above in the attic, and a bipartite stained glass stair window in the penultimate bay to the left, which has stone mullions and transoms. There is a flat-roofed porch that is advanced to the ground floor of the penultimate bay to the right, featuring a pair of windows in the center, a doorway with chamfered reveals to the right return, and a two-leaf panelled timber door. Above the porch, there is a gabled first floor with a window in the center, and a blank bay to the outer right.

The villa predominantly has timber sash and case windows, with plate glass in the lower sashes and small panes in the upper sashes. The roof is covered with grey slate and has lead ridges, with coped gablehead stacks that have circular cans. The rainwater goods are made of cast iron.

The interior was not seen in 2000.

There is also an ancillary structure, which includes a rectangular-plan garage to the northwest adjoining the boundary wall. This garage has four-leaf timber doors facing Moray Place, a slate roof, and a half-timbered gablehead. The square-plan gatepiers have pyramidal caps, and there is a low coped stepped boundary wall to the south, high Aberdeen bond walls to the west, and brick and granite coped rubble walls to the remainder.
