Description

10 Rubislaw Den South is a villa built in 1903 by Robert Gordon Wilson. It is two stories high with an attic and features two bays. The building is constructed from tooled coursed grey granite ashlar, with contrasting light grey granite used for long and short dressings that are finely finished at the south elevation. The remainder of the villa is made from Aberdeen bond granite rubble. It has a base course, a string course that forms the first-floor cill course, and overhanging eaves, along with long and short quoins.

The south elevation is asymmetrical, with a gabled bay that advances to the right. It has a four-light canted window that spans the ground and first floors, supporting an advanced half-timbered gablehead on oversized stone brackets, with a bipartite window inset. To the left, there is a doorway in the flanking bay with chamfered reveals, a corniced lintel, and a light grey granite keystone detail above. The entrance features a two-leaf panelled timber door with a deeply chamfered angle to the outer left, which has a window at the center of the chamfer and is flanked by another window. Above, there is a bipartite window on the first floor and a piend-roofed tripartite dormer in the attic.

The east elevation has a gable and includes a single-storey modern garage addition at the ground floor, along with a modern satellite dish positioned to the right of the gable on the eaves.

The north elevation was not visible in 2000.

The west elevation features a gable to the right and a single-storey addition to the left. There is a tall stair window near the center and irregular fenestration throughout the rest of the elevation.

The villa has timber sash and case windows, with plate glass in the lower sashes and nine-pane upper sashes. The roof is covered with purple-grey slate and has lead ridges, with solar panels along the ridge. There are gablehead and wallhead stacks with circular cans, and cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen in 2000.

The property includes square-plan gatepiers with pyramidal caps on the south side, which are shared with adjacent properties. There are low coped granite ashlar walls between the gatepiers, and granite and brick coped rubble walls make up the remainder of the boundary.
