Description

22 Rubislaw Den South in Aberdeen is a villa built in 1900 by Robert Gordon Wilson. This two-storey and attic structure features three bays and is constructed from tooled coursed grey granite, with contrasting light grey long and short dressings that are finely finished on the south elevation. The rest of the building is made from granite rubble. Notable architectural elements include a base course, a dividing string course, overhanging eaves, and timber bargeboards.

The south elevation is asymmetrical, featuring a chamfered doorway at the center bay, accessed by stone steps. The doorway has a two-leaf panelled timber door and a three-pane fanlight above. There is a window above the door on the first floor, with tripartite windows on both the ground and first floors of the flanking bay to the right. The attic has a piend-roofed tripartite dormer. To the left, a gabled bay is slightly advanced, showcasing a five-light canted window on the ground floor, a parapet that forms a balcony on the first floor, and a tripartite window above, set in a half-timbered gablehead.

The east elevation is also asymmetrical, with a gabled bay to the left and irregular fenestration elsewhere. The north elevation features an asymmetrical design with a two-storey gabled wing on the left and a modern conservatory attached. The west elevation is asymmetrical as well, with a gabled section to the right and a single window on the ground floor.

The villa predominantly has timber sash and case windows with small-pane upper sashes. The roof is covered with piended and gabled grey slate, featuring lead ridges, and has coped gablehead stacks with circular cans. The rainwater goods are made of cast iron.

The interior was not seen in 2000. The property also includes square-plan gatepiers with pyramidal caps on the south side, a low coped granite wall between them topped with railings, and granite and brick coped rubble walls surrounding the remainder of the property.
