Description
The Binns, located at 412 Perth Road in Dundee, is a building designed by James Black, dating from around 1830 to 1840. It features a single storey and a two-storey structure with a bowed south front and an unfluted Greek Doric doorway. The building was constructed after 1821 and includes a notable staircase, as well as a poorly maintained external basement cottage that is harled with painted ashlar margins.
The south elevation has three bays, with the entrance approached by steps situated between twin advanced gables. The building has broad eaves and a later set-back northwest wing that contains a single window without margins. The north elevation features three windows. The roof is a piended and gabled U-plan slate roof, adorned with four tall ashlar stacks along the slope. All ground floor windows are sash windows with 12 lying panes.
