Description
281 Perth Road in Dundee is a two-storey and attic terrace building, constructed around 1870. The front is finished in ashlar, while the sides and rear are made of rubble.
The terrace includes Nos 271-287, each featuring a two-bay design with a Corinthianesque columned doorpiece to the right and a canted bay window spanning both floors to the left. No 289 has a three-bay layout with a central Corinthianesque doorpiece and flanking canted bays. Nos 291-297 also have a three-bay design with a central Corinthianesque doorpiece (originally from No 297), a canted bay to the left, and tripartite ground floor and bipartite first floor windows to the right, with the arrangement reversed at No 293.
The terrace has a continuous cornice and blocking course, with round arched dormers throughout, except for a later dormer added at No 295. There is a timber verandah and porch at the west gable, facing Rockfield Street, but there is an unfortunate modern addition at the east gable.
The windows are sash and case style, set in architraves with a two-pane glazing pattern. The roof is slate, and there are ashlar ridge stacks. A rubble-built boundary wall features simple ashlar gatepiers.
