Description
40 Perth Road in Dundee is a building likely designed by James Black around 1830. It features four storeys and a basement, with a four-bay ashlar front and a six-storey coursed rubble rear.
The original ground floor is pilastered and corniced, consisting of seven bays with three doorways at the center, two of which are blocked. There are two windows on either side, each with aprons. A cill band is present at the second floor, along with an eaves band, wallhead, and gable-end stacks.
The west gable is made of rubble and is cement rendered, featuring a pilaster that returns from the front, along with a cornice, band, and a pedimented gable. The building has a slate roof, and the windows are sash and case with 12-pane glazing patterns on the second and third floors of the front, as well as some of the rear windows. Wrought-iron railings are present at the basement and steps.
