1 West Bell Street, Dundee

1 West Bell Street in Dundee is a classical terraced town house attributed to James Black, built around 1840. The building is three storeys high, with an attic, basement, and sub-basement, situated on sloping ground. It is constructed from cream sandstone ashlar, with a stugged finish on the basement, a rusticated appearance on the ground floor, and rubble at the rear. The roof is covered with grey slate.

The front elevation features a band course at the ground floor, a cill band on the first and second floors, and an eaves course. The windows are margined in the basement, architraved and aproned on the first floor, and architraved on the second floor. The basement and ground floor have two-pane timber sash and case glazing, while the upper floors retain the original 12-pane pattern. The roof includes canted dormers.

The front entrance has a panelled door at the centre, accessed by steps that oversail the basement. There are windows on either side of the door, three windows on both the first and second floors, along with two rooflights and two dormers. The basement has a door and two windows.

At the rear, there is a door leading to the sub-basement and three windows on each upper floor. The interior features spear-headed iron railings leading to the steps and area.
