Description

10 Constitution Road in Dundee is a former educational building constructed in 1838, with extensions added in 1872 and modern additions to the side and rear. This two-storey structure features a basement and attic, and has a five-bay facade that is classically detailed. The front is made of cream sandstone ashlar, with a channelled design on the ground floor, while the sides and rear are built from rubble. The roof is slate.

The front elevation includes a cill band at the first floor and a coped parapet with a dentilled cornice. The tall architraved windows on the first floor are round-headed in the recessed center bay, though they have modern glazing that is not in keeping with the original style. The building has a Mansard roof, with a round-headed bipartite dormer at the center featuring angle acroteria and a square-domed roof with a capped apex. There are also pedimented dormers on flattened pyramidal-roofed pavilions at both the left and right ends, as well as at the returns.

The front elevation has a central door with a fanlight, which is accessed by steps leading down to the basement. This door is framed by a pilastered doorpiece with a parapet detail. There are two windows on either side of the door, and three round-headed windows recessed at the first floor, along with additional windows to the left and right, and three dormers above that match the earlier description.

The side elevations feature various windows on the left, which are mostly obscured, while there are modern additions on the right side. The rear elevation has several additions as well.

The interior has not been seen. The property also includes two mannered octagonal gatepiers and cast-iron railings that enclose the basement area.
