Description
West Lodge in Lammerton is a former school building, constructed in 1841 by George Mathewson. It is a single-storey structure with a rectangular plan, built from coursed rubble sandstone and topped with a grey slate roof. The windows were originally bipartite sash and case with a diamond glazing pattern, but most have now been replaced with modern top-hopper designs, featuring chamfered reveals. The building has deep eaves that showcase exposed rafter and purlin ends, a piended roof at the south end, and two coped stacks.
On the main elevation, there is a slightly advanced off-centre gable that features a chamfered doorcase. Flanking the door are round-headed windows with linked hoodmoulds, and above the door is a datestone. There is also a round-headed window above with the original glazing pattern. To the left, there is a bay with a bipartite window that retains its original glazing pattern, and a blocked window is located at the left return gable. To the right, there is a bay containing three windows.
The rear elevation includes a door with a glazed lean-to porch on the right side, flanked by windows, and there are three additional windows at the far left.
