Description

Ardville, located at 47 Main Street in Glenluce, dates from 1900 but has origins in the 18th century. This two-storey house features a first floor that breaks the eaves and is designed in a three-bay format. It was formerly a shop on the ground floor and is part of a terrace. The exterior is rendered with fine lining and has painted architraved margins, along with quoin strips and a painted base course.

On the south elevation facing Main Street, there is a consoled cornice above the former three-bay shop at the ground floor, which is grouped towards the left. The central doorway is blocked, with windows on either side. To the outer right, there is a fanlit door with a moulded surround above it, inscribed with "Rebuilt 1900. May 1st 1736 David Leggat, Chyrugeon." A window at the centre of the first floor is truncated by the eaves, and there are triangular dormerheads above the windows in the left and right bays.

The west elevation is attached to a slightly lower building, Nos 43 and 45 Main Street. Similarly, the east elevation is adjoined to another slightly lower building, No 49 Main Street. The first floor features modern glazing, while the ground floor has plate glass display windows. There are no skews, and the gablehead stacks are partly rendered, shared between the east and west sides. The roof is covered with modern tiles, and there are cast-iron rainwater goods with decorative gutter fixtures and octagonal cans.
