Rowantree, 38 Main Street, Glenluce

Rowantree is a two-storey, three-bay house dating from the early to earlier 19th century, and is part of a terraced pair. The north elevation facing Main Street is rendered, while the east elevation is made of painted rubble, featuring painted margins, quoin strips, and a base course.

On the north elevation, there is a broad bay with a pediment that slightly projects at the center, topped with a heavy moulded finial set on a square plinth. The central entrance has a panelled door with a fanlight above it. The windows are regularly spaced, with an enlarged window located in the bay to the left on the ground floor.

The east elevation is gabled and blank, while the west elevation is attached to No 36 Main Street, the Crown Inn, which is listed separately.

The house features 4-pane glazing in its sash and case windows, with fixed plate glass glazing in the enlarged window. A red sandstone coped mutual skew is located to the northwest, and there are broad gablehead stacks, harled on the east side and made of painted rubble on the west side. The roof is covered with modern tiles.
