Description
56 Main Street in Kirkcolm is an early 19th century, two-storey, four-bay house that forms part of a terrace. The building is constructed of painted rubble and features a painted base course and heavy painted lintels.
On the east elevation facing Main Street, there is a door located in the bay to the left of the centre, which has a boarded design and a letter-box fanlight above it. The windows are regularly spaced, although the first floor in the bay to the right of the centre has a different arrangement.
The south elevation is attached to a taller building, No 54 Main Street, while the north elevation is adjoined to No 58 Main Street. The house has sash and case windows, primarily with 12-pane glazing, along with some windows featuring 4-pane glazing. A painted brick mutual gablehead stack is located on the north side, and the roof is covered with purple slates.
