Description

52 Main Street in Glenluce is a pair of houses built in the later 19th century, featuring two storeys and an irregular six-bay layout, originally part of a three-house terrace. The building is rendered and includes long and short quoins, architraved margins, a dentilled eaves course, and a base course.

The north elevation facing Main Street has a corniced double doorpiece in the penultimate bay to the right, flanked by Corinthian pilasters and featuring two doors. Above the doors is a stepped moulding, which is topped with finialled dies and a shield motif at the center. To the left of the center, there is a segmental-arched pend, with a door in the penultimate bay to the left. The remaining three bays at ground level have windows, while the first floor features a bipartite window in the outer bay to the left, and windows in the outer bay to the right and the bay to the right of center, both of which were formerly bipartite and have gabled dormerheads with a moulded roundel motif. Above the pend in the bay to the left of center is a small window. Long and short quoins are present between the center bays, and the elevation continues beyond the quoins, linking it to Nos 56-60 Main Street.

The east elevation is gabled, while the west elevation is harled above the adjoining building, No 50 Main Street. The building features modern glazing, coped skews, red sandstone to the northeast, and concrete to the northwest. It has gablehead stacks that are tall and rendered to the east and broad and harled to the west. The roof is covered with small purple slates, and the dormerheads are slate-hung. Cast-iron rainwater goods and moulded eaves guttering are also present.
