Description

Kelvin House Hotel is a mid-19th century, two-storey, three-bay hotel with a double-pile plan. The building is rendered, with the east elevation featuring rubble and the west elevation being painted rubble. It has painted architraved margins with bracketed cills and quoin strips, along with painted margins on the west elevation and ashlar mullions.

On the south elevation facing Main Street, there is a dentilled cornice and an angled tablet above a pilastered doorpiece at the center, which includes a deep-set panelled door with a fanlight. The ground floor has tripartite windows in the bays to the left and right, while the first floor features a single window at the center and bipartite windows in the bays to the left and right. A modern timber gate is attached to the left.

The west elevation is M-gabled, with a window to the left and paired windows to the right at the first floor. The ground floor has four windows that continue onto a cat-slide extension to the north, while the right gable is blank.

The east elevation is also M-gabled and blank, with a narrow passage formed with the house to the right. The windows are fitted with plate glass glazing in sash and case style. The building features red sandstone coped skews that extend across the gablehead, along with rubble and granite gablehead stacks that have a red sandstone band on the east and west sides. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, and there are cast-iron rainwater goods with octagonal cans.
