Description
38 Main Street in Kirkcolm is a mid-19th century, two-storey, three-bay house that was once part of a terrace and had a shop. The building is constructed of painted rubble with painted rubble margins.
On the east elevation facing Main Street, there is a central door with a letter-box fanlight above it. The windows on both floors are arranged in a regular pattern, with a broader window in the right bay at the ground floor, which was formerly a shop window. A very simple cornice and fascia band runs over the centre and right bays at the ground floor.
The south elevation is attached to a lower building, No 36 Main Street, while the north elevation is adjoined to No 40 Main Street.
The building features modern glazing in a 4-pane pattern. It has a coped skew to the south and gablehead stacks on the north side, along with a broad stack on the south. The roof is covered with modern red tiles and has squat octagonal chimney cans.
