Description
40 Main Street in Kirkcolm is a mid-19th century, two-storey, two-bay house that is part of a terrace. The building is constructed of painted rubble with painted raised margins.
On the east elevation facing Main Street, there is a door located in the left bay, and a window in both floors of the right bay, with the ground floor window being enlarged.
The south elevation is attached to No 38 Main Street, while the north elevation is connected to the lower building at No 42 Main Street.
The first-floor window features plate glass glazing in a sash and case style, while the ground floor has metal-framed glazing. The building has no skews and features gablehead stacks on both the north and south sides. The roof is covered with Rubberoid tiles and has squat octagonal cans.
