Description

35, 37, and 39 Main Street in Glenluce is a mid-19th century, two-storey and attic house with three bays. The ground floor features four asymmetrical bays (1-3). The southern elevation is constructed of squared and snecked rubble, while the western and northern elevations are painted. The ground floor on the southern side is rendered and lined, with painted raised margins and reveals that are chamfered and stopped before the cill. The first floor features projecting starts and painted long and short quoins.

On the southern (Main Street) elevation, there is a window in the nepus gable above the center bay, with coped skews that extend across the gablehead and skewends to the gable. There is a corniced, rendered, and chamfered stack. To the right of the center, there is a deep-set fanlit door, with a window to the left of center and additional windows in the bays to the left and right on the ground floor. The first floor has a window at the center and bipartite windows in the bays to the left and right. A low wall connects to the right, linking to No 41 Main Street.

The western (St John Street) elevation features a window to the outer right on the first floor. The eastern elevation is gabled and blank. The northern elevation has a door to the right of center, flanked by a window on the right. There is a low gabled wing attached to the left, with a window on the right. A stair window is located to the left of center, with additional windows to the left and right on the first floor, and a narrow window between the left bay and the stair window.

Most of the glazing is modern, with plate glass in the sash and case windows in the right bay on the first floor, the nepus gable, and the dormer windows. The stair window features margin-pane etched glazing. The dormer windows above the outer bays are slate-hung and piended. The red sandstone coped skews continue across the gableheads and skewends. The gablehead stacks to the east and west are partly rendered and corniced. The roof is covered with graded grey slates and has a full complement of octagonal cans.
