Description

The King's Arms Hotel, located at 31 Main Street in Glenluce, is an early 19th-century, two-storey and attic, three-bay hotel situated at the end of a terrace. The south elevation is harled, while the east elevation features painted rubble, with painted margins, quoin strips, and a base course.

On the south elevation facing Main Street, there is a deep-set door at the center, topped with a fanlight and framed by a cavetto splayed doorcase. Above the door, a moulded sign board is present, along with a modern canopy. The fenestration is regularly arranged, and there are three gabled dormer windows with ball finials above the bays.

The east elevation has a window to the right, which is foreshortened from the door, and another window to the left of the center at ground floor. There is a window to the right at the first floor. A two-storey lean-to extension is attached to the right, featuring a window at the first floor, along with a modern flat-roofed extension at ground level that projects to the east.

The west elevation is adjoined to No 29 Main Street, which is listed separately. The windows are fitted with plate glass glazing in sash and case styles, while the dormer windows to the left and center have four-pane glazing. The east elevation displays a variety of glazing patterns. The building features red sandstone coped skews, broad gablehead stacks that are rendered to the west and painted rubble to the east, and it is covered with graded grey-green slates and red sandstone ridging. There are no chimney cans.
