Cowanlea, 8 Main Street, Portpatrick

Cowanlea is an earlier 19th century, two-storey house with an attic, forming part of a terrace on Main Street in Portpatrick. The building has a rectangular plan and is finished with painted render, featuring a base course and painted margins around the openings.

On the northwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, there is a central entrance with a timber door that has a letterbox fanlight above it. Directly above the entrance, at the first floor, is a single window. The flanking bays have regular fenestration, except for a large shop window located on the ground floor to the left. The attic features canted dormers on both the outer left and right sides.

The windows are plate glass timber sash and case, with the shop window situated on the ground floor to the outer left. The roof is covered with grey slate and has broad coped stacks with circular cans. The building also includes cast iron rainwater goods. The interior was not seen in 1997.
