Description
The tollhouse located at 35 Main Street in Portpatrick dates back to the earlier 19th century. It is a single-storey building with an attic and features a two-bay bow-ended design. The exterior is finished in painted rubble, with margins around the openings.
On the southeast elevation, which serves as the entrance, there is a modern timber door on the right and a bipartite window on the left. The attic features a canted dormer. The northeast elevation, which is the bow-ended side, has a bipartite window at ground level. The northwest elevation, or rear, includes a single window at ground level and another canted dormer in the attic. There is also a flat-roofed extension on the outer right, which has a boarded timber door.
The windows are made of plate glass in timber sash and case style, and there is a rooflight. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a bow-ended shape, featuring a coped mutual stack and circular cans.
The interior was not seen in 1997.
