Description

Tweed Cottage is a former tollhouse built around 1820, with later additions and alterations. It is a single-storey building with an attic and has a three-bay layout, originally in an L-shape, featuring a single-storey and basement wing to the southeast and a single-storey garage block to the northwest. The exterior is constructed from harl-pointed sandstone rubble with tooled sandstone dressings, including a base course and eaves course. The building has rusticated quoins and droved long and short surrounds to the openings, along with projecting cills.

The northeast elevation, which serves as the entrance, features a modern, part-glazed timber panelled door at the centre, accompanied by a modern glazed fanlight and single windows on either side. The later wing is recessed to the outer left, while the garage block is recessed to the outer right.

On the southeast elevation, there is a central opening, a single window to the outer right, and another opening to the left, with a projecting wing attached to the outer left and a piended dormer recessed above.

The northwest elevation has a single window to the outer left and an opening to the outer right. The windows throughout include 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case style, with modern windows in the dormer and southeast wing, as well as rooflights. The roof is covered with grey slate, featuring a piend and platform design, and has a coped, brick-built ridge stack with circular cans.

The interior was not seen in 1999.
