Description

Scotch New Water Shiel is a fishing shiel built in the earlier to mid 19th century, with later additions and alterations. It is a single-storey structure with an attic and has a rectangular plan. To the north, there is a lower, single-storey, three-bay addition, and to the south, there is a lean-to garage addition.

The principal block is constructed from squared and snecked tooled pink sandstone, featuring tooled cream sandstone quoins and long and short surrounds around the openings. It has overhanging timber bracketed eaves and timber shutters. There is a slatted timber wing to the north and a sandstone addition to the south.

On the northeast elevation, the principal block has a boarded timber door to the left with a plate glass fanlight above it, and a single window to the right. A triangular attic window is centered above. To the right, there is a recessed timber range with a glazed timber door in the center and flanking windows. The lean-to addition has a two-leaf boarded timber garage door recessed to the outer left.

The northwest elevation features the principal gable end with a single window at ground level, offset to the left of center, and an attic light above. There is a gabled addition projecting to the outer right, which has a large, square-headed opening centered in the gable end.

The southwest elevation was not visible in 1999. The southeast elevation shows the principal gable end with the lean-to addition projecting at ground level.

The principal block has 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, and the roofs throughout are covered with grey slate. There is a brick-built apex stack on the northwest side and a circular chimney.
