Description

Toll Bar Cottage is a former tollhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early 19th century and features 20th-century additions. The building is constructed from coursed rubble gritstone and has quoins, plain gables, intermediate and gable end ridge stacks, and a stone slated roof. It is a single-storey structure with four bays and two single bay wings at the rear. The northeast end bay has a blocked doorway with a massive surround, which has been converted into a window. There is a two-light pointed bay next to the doorway, followed by a two-light flush mullioned window, all fitted with glazing bar casements. The southwest end bay is gabled and rendered, featuring a 20th-century window frame.
