Kitchen Garden, Castle Kennedy, Lochinch Heritage Estate

The Kitchen Garden at Castle Kennedy, part of the Lochinch Heritage Estate, dates back to 1733. It is a near rectangular-plan walled garden situated on a sloping site, covering approximately 6300 square meters. The garden is enclosed by a coped red brick wall, with the northeast wall designed as a 'hot wall'. In the mid-19th century, glasshouses were built against the northeast wall, although most have been demolished, with some modern replacements still present. The garden features timber doors at all entrances, and there is an iron gate on the southwest elevation. Along the outer northeast wall, there is a range of lean-to storage sheds, while the outer southwest wall has stepped terracing. The piers of the garden are topped with ball finials, many of which are broken or missing.
