Black Stables, Castle Kennedy, Lochinch Heritage Estate

Black Stables is a single-storey, three-bay cottage from the later 19th century, located at Castle Kennedy within the Lochinch Heritage Estate. The building features a lean-to on the north side, constructed of whinstone with a painted brick lean-to, and has brick surrounds around its openings. The eaves are bracketed with decorative labelmoulds above the openings on the west elevation.

The west elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a central gabled entrance that is advanced, with scalloped skews. It includes a glazed timber door with a letterbox fanlight above, a square plaque on the gable, and a timber finial. There are single windows flanking the entrance, and a square opening leads to the recessed lean-to on the outer left.

On the south side elevation, there is a glazed timber door located on the outer right. The north side elevation features a single strip window in the lean-to. The rear elevation, facing east, has a modern casement window on the outer left, a 12-pane window on the outer right, and a single central window. Additionally, there is a glazed timber door leading to the recessed lean-to on the outer right.

The west elevation is fitted with four-pane timber sash and case windows, while the north elevation has a mix of 12-pane and modern timber glazing. The roof is covered with grey slate and includes rooflights, coped ridge stacks, and polygonal cans. The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1999.
