Description
The Walled Garden at Stainrigg dates from the earlier to mid 19th century and has undergone later alterations. It features an irregular plan and measures approximately 3,000 square meters. The garden is enclosed by lower, railed walls, which surround a rectangular outer garden located to the southeast. The walls of the walled garden are constructed of harl-pointed rubble on the outer elevations, with droved sandstone dressings and red brick inner linings. The walls have squared coping and are complemented by boarded timber doors.
Adjoining the inner elevation of the southeast wall is a mono-pitched red brick potting shed, while the greenhouses that once stood on the outer elevation are now missing. The outer garden to the southeast is enclosed by low rubble walls featuring tooled coping and iron railings.
