Description

The Job Centre at 20 Victoria Street in Newton Stewart is an earlier 19th-century, two-storey office building featuring a late 19th-century mansard and attic addition. The structure is constructed of whinstone rubble, with the ground floor facing the street in bull-faced granite. The first floor is made of granite blocks with whinstone pinning, and it includes granite quoins, margins, a cill course, a cornice, and a blocking course.

On the street elevation, there is a door located in the off-centre bay to the left, which has a corniced surround. Flanking windows are positioned to the right and left, with an additional window inserted between the bays on the right. The first floor has regular fenestration. The building features three flat-roofed dormers at both the front and rear.

There is a blank gable adjacent to the pend on the south side. The ground floor has modern timber doors and windows, while the first floor contains plate glass sash and case windows, along with 4-pane glazing in the dormers. The roof is covered with grey slates, and the mansard skews have sandstone ashlar coping with ball finials. The building also retains decorative lead rainwater goods.
