Description

24 and 26 Victoria Street in Newton Stewart is a building dating from around 1800. It is two stories tall and features an irregular elevation with three bays on the left and one bay on the right, accommodating two shops on the ground floor.

The building is constructed from pinned squared granite rubble with raised granite margins. At the center, there is a Roman Doric pilastered doorpiece that includes a decorative semi-circular fanlight with astragals and a panelled door. On either side of this entrance are two altered shop fronts that have modern plate glass windows. To the extreme right, there is a round-arched pend door with a key-block.

On the first floor, there are three regularly spaced single windows, and to the right bay, there is a larger single light window. All of these windows are modern two-pane uPVC, which is out of character with the building. The structure has a simple eaves cornice, slate roofs, skylights, and coped stacks, with a sandstone ridge.
