Description
Torduff, located at 491 Lanark Road in Edinburgh, is a building designed by Sir Robert Lorimer in 1896, with an addition made in the early 1960s by builder Milne from Currie. This low, two-storey structure is harled and features minimal ashlar dressings. Originally designed in an L-shape, it now has a T-plan layout, with the main southern section topped by a jerkin-headed roof. The north wing is asymmetrically gabled, featuring an off-centre stack and crowsteps on the east side.
The entrance is located in the wing at the re-entrant angle, while there is a single-storey canted bay on the right side of the main block. The south elevation has six windows, three of which are part of the 1960s addition. The first floor slightly oversails the ground floor. The original section includes outer four-light windows with three-light piended dormers above, and a central single light with a platformed bipartite dormer.
The addition features a single-storey conservatory with a garden shelter on the west face, a flat-roofed extension, and three dormers that match Lorimer's design—two bipartite on the west and a piended tripartite on the east. The building has a tiled roof with tall harled stacks, and the fenestration primarily consists of leaded casements, with two wing windows that are sashed. The eastern addition includes a garage court and has a stepped wall to the north.
