Description
Whiteholm is a 2-storey house built in 1906 by Sir Robert Lorimer, designed in the T-plan 'Colinton Cottage' style. The exterior features harled walls with a snecked rubble base course and ashlar cills, while the windows have timber mullions.
On the southeast elevation, the house has a 3-bay design with two full-height rectangular projecting windowed bays. These bays are connected at the center by a loggia that has a swept roof, although it is now enclosed with modern materials. The first-floor bays are slate-hung and adorned with decorative fish-scale diamond detailing and bell-cast roofs that complement the main pitch.
The east elevation includes a doorway with an ashlar surround and a decorative ogee pediment located in the re-entrant angle of a recessed and lower northern wing. The east gable projects outwards, featuring a stack that breaks the eaves to the right of the gablehead, which is decorated with an ashlar triangle and a blind slit. There is a variety of window sizes and details throughout this elevation.
To the north, there is a single-storey service wing with small-pane glazing in the casement windows. The harled stacks have ashlar coping, and the roofs are slated.
Inside, the house retains well-preserved original details.
