Description
540 Lanark Road, 538, Juniper Green is a simple two-storey Georgian house originally built in 1815, as indicated by the date. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with quoin ends and raised margins, topped with a low-pitched piended roof. It was remodelled around 1850, featuring a broad, boldly projecting ashlar canted bay on the left side, stone gablet dormers with diamond patterns in the tympana, and a plain-pilastered porch located in the re-entrant angle. At the rear, there are twin pyramid-roofed additions. A circular armorial panel is present in the gable facing Baberton Avenue, and the garden gate includes antique-looking corbels. The property formerly had a single-storey eastern wing, which has since been demolished.
