5 Minto Street, Edinburgh

5 Minto Street is an early 19th century house that has undergone later 19th century alterations. It is a two-storey, three-bay symmetrical classical building, with an additional storey added to a single-storey wing on the north side. The house is constructed of cream sandstone ashlar, with rubble sandstone used for the sides and rear. It features a base course, a cill course, architraves, and cornices above the first-floor windows, as well as a cornice and blocking course raised at the centre with terminal dies.

The west elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a pilastered central doorway with a panelled door and a round-arched, plate glass fanlight. The doorway is framed by an advanced, corniced, columned doorcase. Above the entrance, there is a single window on the first floor, while the ground floor features three-light canted windows in the outer left and right bays, with single windows above them. A pedimented dormer breaks the eaves of the two-storey wing.

The windows are 4-pane timber, sash and case style. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design, with a truncated, coped wallhead stack featuring moulded octagonal cans to the north and a tall, rendered, coped wallhead stack with moulded cans to the south.

The interior was not seen in 1995. The property is enclosed by low coped boundary walls along the street, with replacement railings and panelled piers at the mutual boundary walls. There is also a carriage gate adjacent to the house on the south side.
