Dovecot, Ravelrig House

The Dovecot at Ravelrig House is an earlier 18th century, two-stage, single chamber structure with a rectangular plan. It is built of rubble with harl-pointing, featuring ashlar margins and dressings, and has a stepped rat-course.

On the southeast (main) elevation, there is a centrally located door at the ground level, with a string course that separates the upper stage, and a small blocked window at the center. The roof has seven flight-holes positioned midway along its length.

The northeast and southwest elevations are blank gables, also displaying the stepped rat course.

The roof is made of grey slate, with a staggered slope that includes a line of wooden flight-holes. The skews and ridge are finished with ashlar coping.

Inside, the dovecot is two stories high and contains 274 nesting boxes.
