Description
The Dovecot at Glamis Castle is an earlier 17th century structure that was repaired in 1976. It is a double chamber, rectangular-plan, lectern dovecot made of roughly coursed rubble with squared rubble quoins, and some dressed stone. It features a part base course, a stepped alighting ledge or rat course, and crowstepped flanks with moulded skewputts. The back parapet is raised to form a gable, and the roof is covered with Angus stone slates.
On the southwest elevation, there are two low doorways at the center, each with a common dripstone and boarded timber doors. Above these, two small timber dormers contain flightholes and have a crowstepped gable behind them.
Inside, the dovecot contains 750 nesting boxes.
