Description
The Dovecot at Candacraig House is a 17th-century structure featuring an early square-plan design that is quite unusual. It has crow-stepped gables on each side, a continuous rat course or alighting ledge, and individual diamond-shaped flight holes positioned above the alighting ledges. The ground level includes a room with a hearth. The exterior is harled, with deep-set openings.
The first stage of the dovecot has a door located at the center of the south elevation and a window on the west side. Each upper stage includes a flight hole, while the north and south elevations feature stepped gablets that break the eaves. The east and west sides have full-width gables.
The building has modern glazing, a roof covered with narrow grey slates, a stone ridge, and a coped stack with thackstanes at each gablehead.
