Description
The Old Game Larder, located within the policies of Candacraig House, dates from probably the earlier to mid 19th century. This two-storey, square-plan building is set into a bank on the ground that slopes sharply to the south. It is constructed from snecked, roughly coursed rubble, featuring squared rubble quoins and margins, and has a slated pavilion roof with a central vent.
The entrance elevation faces south and includes steps leading up to the door, with a louvered opening adjacent and a small window above. There is an additional door on the eastern elevation for access to the upper stage.
Inside, the larder retains metal hooks for hanging game, indicating its original purpose. The structure is in good condition but is currently disused.
