41 Portobello Street, Leith, Edinburgh

41 Portobello Street in Leith, Edinburgh, dates from around 1835 and 1860. It is a mirrored pair of two-storey and attic houses built on a raised basement, featuring three bays. The houses are constructed of cream ashlar sandstone, with No 41 painted, and have polished dressings. There is a band course above the basement, a cill course at the first floor, and a cornice with a blocking course. The ground floor has moulded architraves, and the windows are arranged regularly.

The outer bays have deep-set panelled doors with rectangular fanlights in corniced doorways. There is a single window in the basements. No 43 features a pair of piend-roofed canted dormers, while No 41 has skylights. The windows are timber sash and case, with No 41 having four panes and No 43 featuring plate glass. The roofs are covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks and ashlar coped skews.

The property includes low rubble front and dividing walls topped with saddleback ashlar coping, as well as cast-iron railings with fleur-de-lys heads leading to the steps and basement area.
