46 Portland Street, Leith, Edinburgh

48 Portland Street in Leith, Edinburgh, dates from around 1835 to 1870 and consists of a mirrored pair of two-storey, three-bay terraced houses. The buildings are constructed of cream ashlar sandstone, although No. 46 is painted. They feature a base course, a cill course at the first-floor cornice, and a blocking course. The windows are regularly spaced, with architraves on the ground floor windows.

The outer bays have corniced doorcases, with No. 46 having a moulded architrave and No. 48 featuring a broad surround. Both houses have rectangular fanlights above the doors. No. 48 also includes a canted piend-roofed dormer.

The windows are made of timber, with No. 48 having 12-pane sash and case windows. The roofs are covered with grey slates and have ashlar-coped skews, along with ashlar stacks, while one stack is rendered.

The front walls are low rubble with saddleback ashlar coping, and there is a coped rubble side wall.
